Wanjiku Mwaurah: The Next Big Thing In Spoken Word

Meet Wanjiku Mwaurah, a passionate poet and an exceptional writer. Wanjiku is well-known for her spoken word performance, entitled I’m Only Fourteen, which she first performed at an event dubbed Talent Night held at the Kenyatta University in the year 2010.

This piece has touched many people’s lives, as it focuses on the plight of a fourteen year old girl who is forced to mother her siblings and be a wife to her father, whose conjugal rights she’s expected to satisfy. This is a tragic plight facing hundreds of young girls across the globe.

Wanjiku’s writing is poignant, touching on pertinent societal issues, affecting people from all walks of life. She has written many different pieces that she has put together to form a book titled The Flow of My Soul.

Other than writing poetry, Wanjiku also works as a script writer at one of the leading film production houses in the country, Spielworks Media. Her most recent work is on the new hit Swahili TV series, Sumu La Penzi.
