In grey jeans customized with African kitenge patterns and hair styled in red dyed dreadlocks, Kate sticks out on first impression as a fashionista. What many may perceive impossible is child’s play for petite and soft spoken Kate Kibugi. Attempting to beat her on how low you can lean backwards would probably send one straight to an orthopedic clinic.

In March 2011, she broke the world record of the lowest Limbo (20cm) in the Guinness book of records. Oh yes! She held the world record until it was broken recently. Limbo is a dance that originated in the Caribbean and it entails a horizontal pole (limbo bar) that is placed a top two vertical poles where dancers on their backs facing the floor attempt in turns to go under it without either touching or falling it.

Kate holds a diploma in professional dancing and gained her skills in ballet, modern jazz, hip hop and contemporary African dance. For four years spanning 2008-2012 she was a member of the Sarakasi Trust which promotes the development of culture, performing arts and entertainment through acrobatics, dance and music. She has also toured several countries as a member of the Kenya Performing Arts group which she joined in 2006.

Her rhythmic bones have endeared her to many and she famously featured in the Kenya Barclays Mortgage advert, cultural festivities and different music videos, among them Kleptomaniacs, Angela Ndambuki , Dela, Mwafrika and Habida. Kate’s other interests lie in fashion and design. This girl who dares to dream owns a clothing line “Sedakta Fashions” which deals majorly in stage performance costumes.

Kate works behind the scenes at Spielworks Media as a costume stylist where she dresses and styles actors. She also loves acting and meeting new people. Her vision at Spielworks Media is for everyone to believe in her work.
