For the past four weeks, Spielworks Media, OneFM 97.1 and 254 Digital have been running a campaign dabbed The Next Big Radio Host. The winner of the competition is set to be the next co-host on the morning show One Breakfast Reloaded on One Fm with DNG, the hype man himself.
The competition rules were simple. The contestants had to take a short video explaining why they deserved to be the next big radio host, then upload the video on YouTube and share it on Facebook. The videos that received the most likes on the Spielworks Media and One Fm Facebook pages were shortlisted for the final round.
Out of the 60 plus applications, only four of the contestants made it to the final round where each of them had a chance to co-host the morning show on 97.1 One Fm alongside DNG, to get a feel of the chemistry between the two presenters. The studio visits took place on four consecutive days and feedback from the public helped the judges determine the winner.
Lulu Saidi, an alumnus of the United States International University (USIU), a former radio presenter on Radio USIU 99.9 Fm, was announced the winner of The Next Big Radio
Host campaign this morning (16th December 2013). The lively presenter won by a landslide as her fans went crazy all over social media saying why she deserved to win.
The other three contestants who made it to the final round of the competition were Cate Rira, Noni Gathoni and Sheila Chege. Many thought that Noni Gathoni would probably have won the competition, considering that she’s celebrated public figure, well known for hosting of The Wedding Show on Citizen TV. However, compe, ni compe!
Lulu managed to gunner more votes than Noni, and the latter decided to pull out of the competition shortly before the winner was announced. I guess it’s true what they say, ‘’If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen!’’
